Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Leaders Meet with Technical Committees and Civil Society Representatives

Leaders Meeting

27 October 2026, Nicosia – The Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Tufan Erhürman, met today at the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus, inside the United Nations Protected Area.

The meetings were held under the auspices of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms. María Ángela Holguín, and the two leaders were welcomed by the top UN official in Cyprus, Mr. Khassim Diagne, on her behalf.

The meetings followed the understanding reached by the two leaders on 20 October 2026 to engage with the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, the Technical Committee on Youth and the Steering Committee of the Civil Society Consultative Body, ahead of the expected arrival of the Personal Envoy on 29 October.

The engagements provided an opportunity for the leaders to hear directly from representatives of the three bodies about their respective work and ongoing activities.

The United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus supports the work of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in the peace process and facilitates the 13 Technical Committees, helping sustain dialogue, build trust and address issues of importance across the island.
