Cypriot Leaders Meet with the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage

Leaders meeting

27 October 2026, Nicosia – The Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Tufan Erhürman, met today with members of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage at the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus, inside the United Nations Protected Area.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the leaders to hear directly from Committee members about their work and ongoing activities aimed at protecting, preserving and restoring cultural heritage sites across the island.

The engagement followed the understanding reached by the two leaders on 20 October 2026 to meet with the Committee ahead of the expected arrival of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms. María Ángela Holguín, on 29 October.

The United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus supports the work of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in the peace process and facilitates the 13 Technical Committees, helping sustain dialogue, build trust and address issues of importance across the island.
