PRESS STATEMENT BY THE UN SPOKESPERSON IN CYPRUS
Today, the top United Nations official in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, hosted the Greek Cypriot leader, Nikos Christodoulides and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, at a meeting convened at the leaders’ initiative at Ledra Palace Hotel. They welcomed the announcement of the Personal Envoy’s reappointment, launched the first meeting of the Technical Committee on Youth, appreciated the progress achieved for the restoration of cemeteries and tasked the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage to proceed with the implementation of its work. They also agreed on new initiatives related to the environment and climate change. Discussions will continue on demining, solar energy and crossing points.
