  • 26 Jul 2017 - NICOSIA, 26 July 2017 - Following my briefing to the United Nations Security Council last week, I have held consultations with the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı. While in New York, I also held detailed discussions with the Secretary-General, the top leadership of the United Nations, the guarantor powers and the broader diplomatic community.
  • 18 Jul 2017 - New York, 18 July 2017 - Good evening friends, I’m very happy to be with Espen and Elizabeth to say something on Cyprus. The Members of the Security Council praise the UN leadership at the Conference on Cyprus in Crans-Montana, and in particular, the personal role of the Secretary-General, his Special Adviser, Espen Barth Eide, and Special Representative Elizabeth Spehar, who worked tirelessly to try to secure a deal. The Council Members will continue to support their good offices.

  • 27 Jun 2017 - NEW YORK, 27 June 2017 - In January, I had the privilege to convene the Conference on Cyprus, which marked a historic step in the endeavours aimed at overcoming decades of division.  Today, I am encouraged by the reconvening of the Conference in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.  I welcome the determination shown by all participants in taking this important step. The opportunity for the reunification of Cyprus is now finally before us.
  • 09 Jun 2017 - In line with the statement issued following the meeting of the Secretary-General with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, in New York on 4 June, and following consultations with all participants, the Conference on Cyprus will reconvene in Geneva on 28 June 2017. The Conference on Cyprus will reconvene at the political level under the auspices of the Secretary-General, with the participation of Mr. Anastasiades and Mr.
  • 31 May 2017 - NEW YORK, 31 May 2017 - The Secretary-General today invited Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci and Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades to New York for a joint meeting to discuss the Cyprus talks and the way forward. Both leaders have accepted his invitation. The Secretary-General looks forward to welcoming the leaders, together with his Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, on the evening of Sunday, 4 June.
  • 26 May 2017 - NICOSIA, 26 May 2017 - Over the last nine days, following the 17 May meeting of the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, I have been engaged in active shuttle diplomacy between the two sides as requested by the leaders.
  • 02 Apr 2017 - NICOSIA, 2 April 2017 - Tonight, the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, had an open and constructive exchange about the challenges experienced over the last months. The two leaders reconfirmed their joint commitment to finding a solution in the best interest of all Cypriots, taking into account the concerns of both communities. Furthermore they exchanged ideas about the way ahead.
  • 01 Feb 2017 - Nicosia, 1 February 2017 - Today, the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, met in the United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) under the auspices of the Special Adviser of the Secretary-General (SASG) on Cyprus, Mr. Espen Barth Eide. The two leaders were accompanied by their negotiators, Mr. Özdil Nami and Mr. Andreas Mavroyannis.
  • 19 Jan 2017 - 19 January 2017 - The Conference on Cyprus held its second session in Mont Pèlerin, Switzerland on 18-19 January at the level of deputies and experts. The working group, established during the high-level meeting in Geneva on 12 January, successfully completed the mandate entrusted to it by the Conference, namely identifying specific questions related to the issue of security and guarantees and the instruments needed to address them. The meetings were conducted in a positive spirit.
