5 November 2026, Nicosia – The Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms. María Ángela Holguín, met today with the co-chairs of the 13 bicommunal Technical Committees as part of her ongoing engagements on the island.
The meeting brought together Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot co-chairs and members whose work helps sustain dialogue, promote cooperation and address practical issues of importance to communities across Cyprus.
Ms. Holguín has consistently highlighted the importance of the Technical Committees in building trust between the two communities. Speaking at the Technical Committees’ Open Day in June 2026, she described them as an example of how cooperation and sustained dialogue can bring people together and deliver meaningful results.
Since their establishment in 2008 by the Cypriot leaders as part of the negotiations, the Technical Committees have provided a platform for bicommunal cooperation in areas including cultural heritage, health, the environment, education and youth, contributing to practical initiatives that benefit people across the island.
Today's meeting formed part of Ms. Holguín's latest round of consultations in Cyprus, ahead of the trilateral meeting with the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders scheduled for 9 November 2026.
The United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus supports the work of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in the peace process and facilitates the 13 Technical Committees, helping sustain dialogue, build trust and address issues of importance across the island.
