Consultations have been launched to shape the next phase of the EU-funded Support Facility to the Technical Committees, bringing together the United Nations Good Offices Mission, UNDP, and the European Commission, alongside the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot coordinators and Co-Chairs of the 13 Technical Committees. This process comes at a key moment, as Phase II of the Support Facility approaches its conclusion in late 2026. This funding is available to support projects in diverse areas that improve the daily lives of Cypriots -- including health, the environment, crossings, culture, economic & commercial matters, gender equality and youth.
The consultations mark an important step in reinforcing cooperation and advancing trust-building efforts across the island. They provide a platform for the Technical Committee leaderships to reflect on achievements, identify evolving needs, and define strategic priorities for the next phase of support.
Looking ahead, discussions focused on shaping impactful and forward-looking project initiatives for implementation from 2027 onwards - ensuring that the Support Facility continues to respond to emerging challenges while strengthening dialogue, trust, and practical cooperation.
The consultation process included two sessions, taking place on 30 March and 3 April 2026.
As María Angela Holguín, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus, said in an article dated 27 February 2026 on “The Importance of Sustaining Dialogue”, it is important to have “discussions on ways to build trust through the Technical Committees and to further enhance the effectiveness of these unique tools”. She paid “tribute to the ever-important work – which often goes unnoticed – of all thirteen Technical Committees.”
