Conference on Cyprus begins in Geneva

UN Secretary-General António Guterres this morning attended the opening of the #ConferenceonCyprus at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akıncı, the Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, and the guarantor powers, represented by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, are participating in the Conference.

The European Union – represented by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini – is also attending as an observer.

Addressing a reception following the opening of the Conference, SG Guterres said: “Good news from these talks on #Cyprus would give us a reason to be hopeful again.”
