The Greek Cypriot leader, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Tufan Erhürman, met this afternoon at the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus, inside the United Nations Protected Area.
The meeting was held under the auspices of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms. María Ángela Holguín. The two leaders were welcomed by the top UN official in Cyprus, Mr. Khassim Diagne, and Officer-in-Charge Sherry Holbrook on behalf of the Personal Envoy.
The meeting formed part of the continuing engagement between the two leaders under United Nations auspices.
The United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus supports the work of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in the peace process and facilitates the 13 Technical Committees, helping sustain dialogue, build trust and address issues of importance across the island. It is recalled that during his July 2026 visit to the island, the Secretary-General said he would convene another 5+1 meeting in a broader format “after adequate preparations on confidence building, methodology and substance, taking into account the convergences already achieved,” adding that the United Nations would work with the two sides and the guarantors and engagement would continue.
