13 May 2026. Approximately 90 guests commemorated the 37th anniversary of the political party dialogue hosted by Slovakia in Cyprus at an event organized by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia in the buffer zone at Ledra Palace Hotel. Sergiy Illarionov, Head of the Good Offices Mission of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus gave remarks, in addition to Denisa Saková, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic. In Mr. Illarionov’s address, he commended the long-term efforts of Slovak diplomacy in support to dialogue and finding a fair and lasting solution in Cyprus. He gave a short briefing on the current state-of-play in the political process, updated on the Technical Committees, and highlighted the importance of contacts between ordinary people as a way to build confidence and trust. He also noted that the political party dialogue under the auspices of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia has been an integral part of the regular reports of the UN Secretary-General to the UN Security Council.
Among the participants at the event were representatives of political parties, the Technical Committees (facilitated by the UN Good Offices Mission in Cyprus), the Committee for Missing Persons in Cyprus, churches and religious communities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot chambers of commerce, the diplomatic corps, as well as Slovak personnel serving in the military and police components of UNFICYP.
