Over the past 15 months, the Technical Committee on Youth has worked to turn dialogue into action, creating new opportunities for young people from across Cyprus to engage, participate and contribute to efforts towards a more connected island.
Since its inaugural meeting in May 2025, the Committee has brought together young people and partners through public events, joint initiatives with other Technical Committees and a youth retreat hosted by the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus. These activities have provided spaces for young people to exchange perspectives, build relationships and contribute their ideas to the Cyprus peace process.
The Committee’s engagement has also extended beyond the island. In June 2026, its members travelled to Brussels, where they met with European partners and shared the perspectives and priorities of young people in Cyprus with a wider audience.
Facilitated by the United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus, with support from UNDP and funding from the European Commission, the Committee continues to promote meaningful youth participation and create opportunities for dialogue and cooperation across the island.
The United Nations Good Offices Mission in Cyprus supports the work of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in the peace process and facilitates the 13 Technical Committees, helping sustain dialogue, build trust and address practical issues affecting Cypriots across the island. It is recalled that during his July 2026 visit to the island, the Secretary-General said he would convene another 5+1 meeting in a broader format “after adequate preparations on confidence building, methodology and substance,” adding that the United Nations would work with the two sides and the guarantors to create the conditions for its success.
